Walking through Scripture, one verse at a time.

No shortcuts, no proof-texting. Just careful exposition that takes a passage in its context and asks what it meant then — and what it means for us now.

How Can I Forgive Someone Who Hurt Me? (Matthew 18)

How do you forgive someone who hurt you and never said they were sorry? In Matthew 18:21-35, Jesus answered Peter's question about forgiveness with the parable of the unforgiving servant, a man released from a debt he could never pay who then refused to extend the same mercy to someone who owed him next to nothing. This episode works through what it means to forgive from the heart, where forgiveness parts ways with reconciliation, and why holding a grudge says something uncomfortable about whether grace has reached us at all.
